Matthijs de Ligt 'to pick from five clubs' amid Manchester United interest and more transfer rumours

Manchester United will have to fight off competition from Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Liverpool to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax, according to reports.

The 19-year-old, who captained Ajax to the semi-finals of the Champions League last summer, is widely held as the most gifted defender of his generation and is set to leave the Eredivisie outfit this summer.

United are known to be keen on the 15-times-capped Netherlands international amid Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's planned rebuild of the Reds' first-team squad.

De Ligt has insisted that no decision will be made on his future until after this summer's UEFA Nations League, which starts this week, and Diario Sport claim the centre-back, and his agent Mino Raiola, will have his pick of five clubs.

De Ligt's Ajax teammate, Frenkie de Jong, signed a deal with Barcelona in January after deciding against a move to PSG. Manchester City were also keen on the midfielder.

Meanwhile, it is claimed that Atléico Madrid have entered negotiations with United over a move for Alexis Sánchez - but face competition from Juventus and Inter Milan for his signature.

The forward, who joined United from Arsenal in January 2018, has failed to hit the heights expected from him during his Old Trafford career to date.

Sanchez has scored just five goals in 45 appearances for the Reds, but reports in Spain claim that that return has not dissuaded Atlético from making contact with United over a move for the Chile international.

Elsewhere, A Bola claim United want to secure a deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes after the Nations League ends.

The 24-year-old scored 32 goals and provided 18 assists across 53 appearances last season, but has still to make a decision on his future.
