Matthijs de Ligt's two transfer demands give Man Utd huge boost

Matthijs de Ligt's future is the subject of much interest as both Manchester United and Barcelona do battle to secure his signature.

Initially it appeared that Barcelona were strong favourites to land the youngster after reports from Spain claimed his agent Mino Raiola had met with representatives from the Catalan giants.

Barcelona have also recently completed the signing of De Ligt's fellow countryman and former Ajax team-mate Frenkie de Jong, and the La Liga club hoped this would convince the 19-year-old to follow suit.

But Barcelona are no closer to signing De Ligt than they were before the transfer window opened, giving the likes of Manchester United hope of beating the Catalans to the punch.

According to new reports from Mundo Deportivo, De Ligt may have cooled his interest in moving to the Camp Nou on his agent's suggestion.

The paper claims that De Ligt has two transfer demands, which are more likely to be met by playing hard to get with Barcelona.

But, of course, should Manchester United meet these demands before Barcelona, it could give the Red Devils the edge in the race to sign De Ligt.

De Ligt's two demands are reportedly: more money than what he is being offered at Barcelona, and assurances of first team football.

Barcelona have a handful of players vying for first team football in central defence: Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti for instance.

At Manchester United, De Ligt would pretty much be guaranteed a first-team spot.

Where money is concerned it appears Barcelona are standing firm on how much they would like to pay the young centre-back each week.

Reports last week suggested Manchester United are prepared to make De Ligt the best-paid teenager on the planet, which again appears to put United in the driving seat.
