Matthijs de Ligt’s father-in-law asked about Manchester United transfer speculation

The father-in-law of Matthijs de Ligt has dismissed speculation linking the defender with a transfer from Juventus to Manchester United .

De Ligt was coveted from clubs around Europe during the summer after helping Ajax win the Eredivisie title and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League .

United have scouted the defender from the early days of his youth career but the MEN understand they never considered a summer transfer likely, with De Ligt eventually sealing a move to Juventus.

The defender has made 20 Serie A appearances this season but has struggled to meet the high expectations in Turin, with reports suggesting United will be interested should Juventus opt to sell this summer.

De Ligt 's father-in-law Keje Molenaar dismissed the speculation and insists the youngster doesn't regret his move to Italy.

"It’s just rumours, that’s all, there’s nothing more to say about it," he told Tuttojuve.

"Matthijs doesn’t regret having chosen Juve at all, he and Annekee are really enjoying themselves in Turin and maybe they can spend some more time in Italy.”

United remain focused on landing their priority transfer targets Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho.

Star forward Marcus Rashford was asked about the interest in Sancho and admitted he would love to line up alongside his international teammate at Old Trafford.

He said: "It would be good [if Sancho joined United]. Sancho is a great player. He's like the new generation player.

"It's definitely exciting to watch the player he's becoming — hopefully we can all play together. That would be good.

"He plays off the cuff. He's imaginative. I think in this generation, they're the things you need to be world class."
