Matthijs de Ligt 'rejects' Manchester United transfer

Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt has rejected the possibility of joining Manchester United this summer, according to reports.

United are in the market to sign a new centre-back at the end of the season but the latest gossip suggests a move for De Ligt will not be on the cards.

The Daily Star suggest De Ligt has turned down a deal worth £60m to move to Old Trafford this summer despite rumoured advice from his agent recommending it as the best financial option.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to be backed heavily at the end of the season but his side's failure to qualify for the Champions League could prove costly when it comes to recruiting top talent.

According to the report De Ligt's agent Mino Raiola has told United hierarchy that the defender has no intentions of signing a deal at the club even if they offer the most money.

The latest reports suggest United have spoken to Juventus about the possibility of signing the 25-year-old in the coming months.

Calciomercato  suggest both United and Bayern have indicated an interest to sign the Argentine at the end of the season.

MEN Sport understand the club would prefer to invest in homegrown youth talent in the summer window, however they would naturally be in the market for any elite player who was to become available.
