Matthijs de Ligt on when Manchester United will learn transfer decision and reason for delay

Matthijs de Ligt has opened up on when he will make a decision on his future amid transfer speculation linking him with Manchester United .

The 19-year-old has become highly sought after thanks to his stellar performances for Ajax this past season as he helped the club to the Eredivisie title and the semi-finals of the Champions League.

But despite seemingly looking certain to join Barcelona a few weeks ago, De Ligt admits he has not made his decision yet and will think about the future over his holidays after playing for Holland during the Nations League Finals this past week.

Barcelona are still favourites to land his signature, though both Paris Saint-Germain and United continue to be linked with the dominant centre-back, who has explained what will be the key factor behind his decision.

"Money is not the problem," De Ligt told Mundo Deportivo . "The most important thing is knowing in the team where you go (that) you will have prominence and play many games.

"I still don't know what my heart says. On my holiday, I will be able to think it over and decide what I am going to do with my future. I don't know when I'm going to have it figured out, but I'm going to take my time."

Meanwhile, the defender also added that the idea of joining the pressure cooker at Barcelona does not frighten him.

"Barcelona have great defenders and it is logical and normal that there is competition, but it is not something that frightens me," he added. "Of course it would be nice to play with De Jong and (Lionel) Messi at Barcelona, but I must look at what is best for me."
