Matthijs de Ligt makes summer transfer prediction ahead of likely move

Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt says he doesn't think he'll cost as much as teammate Frenkie de Jong were he to move this summer, as is expected.

The 19-year-old centre-back will line up in Tuesday's Champions League semi-final first leg against Tottenham Hotspur as one of the most in-demand defenders on the planet, with Barcelona believed to be leading the race for his signature.

Barca have already secured the arrival of De Jong for next season, with the midfielder completing his £65million move in January ahead of completing the rest of the campaign at Ajax.

It has been suggested that De Ligt could command a similar fee or perhaps even one approaching the £75million Liverpool paid for his fellow Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, but the man himself disagrees.

"Will I be more expensive than Frenkie? I don't think so, no," he told Ajax's social networks.

"Normally teams spend more money on midfield players than defenders.

"I really don't know.

"It's up to Ajax - it's not something that I decide. We shall see."

De Ligt added that he still hasn't decided whether or not he'll leave this summer, with all the focus on his side's upcoming clash with Spurs.

"I haven't made a decision yet, so I don't know [if I will stay]," he said.

"I am only focused on the last games of the season for now.

"We still have a lot to play for so let's finish this season in a good way."
