Matthijs De Ligt could play for Manchester United

Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt would be a 'perfect fit' at Manchester United according to former winger Jesper Olsen.

De Ligt, 19, has established himself as one of the best young players in Europe over the last couple of years and has caught the eye of some of Europe's biggest clubs. United are looking to make a number of signings in the summer and the Ajax defender has been repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford.

United failed to sign a central defender last year amid interest in Kalidou Koulibaly, Toby Alderweireld, Milan Skriniar, Jerome Boateng and Diego Godin. The MEN revealed last week the club had changed their transfer strategy to focus on youthful targets. Barcelona and Liverpool are both said to be interested in De Ligt but Olsen believes he would fit in perfectly at United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"No doubt about it [he could play for United]," Olsen told Omnisport. "Playing at Ajax, you have to be a quality player. So, of course, he could. No doubt about it. He could fit into any top team at the moment."

Manchester United might already have David de Gea's replacement

United were so wary of De Ligt's distribution in their preparation for the Europa League final that Jose Mourinho instructed his forwards to press the Dutchman whenever he had the ball, but stand off partner Davinson Sanchez. De Ligt made his debut for Ajax in 2016 and has already made more than 100 appearances for the Dutch side and captained them earlier this season.

"I think nowadays the top clubs are very much of the same belief in how you play, they like to be in control of the game," 1985 FA Cup winner Olsen added. "So as long as he goes to one of those clubs, I think a player of [his] calibre would fit in in most teams."
