Matthijs de Ligt breaks silence on transfer rumours - gives Liverpool fresh hope

Matthijs de Ligt admits he doesn't know if he will follow in the footsteps of Frenkie de Jong and sign for Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The Catalan giants are favourites to land Europe's most coveted young centre-back after securing the £67million transfer of his Ajax team-mate De Jong.

But De Ligt has yet to agree formal terms with Barcelona, and his latest admission that he isn't sure what he is going to do yet leaves the door open for Liverpool and Manchester United in the race to sign the Dutchman.

De Ligt spoke to Fox Sport after lifting the Eredivisie trophy with Ajax on Wednesday night. He said: "This is not the time to talk about my future.

"I don't know if I will go with Frenkie de Jong [to Barcelona]. I still have to analyse things and see everything. We'll see what happens.

"I cannot say anything. We'll see at the end of summer. There is nothing yet."
