Matthijs de Ligt breaks silence on future amid Manchester United transfer links

Matthijs de Ligt insists he has not made a decision on his future amid incessant speculation surrounding a possible move to Manchester United.

United sources have told the MEN they do not expect to sign De Ligt, who is still due to join Barcelona, but reports in Spain claimed United are the frontrunners to sign him.

De Ligt, 19, has liked former and current United players' posts on Instagram but it could be a possible tactic to drive the price up amid United's admiration. The MEN previously revealed United scouted De Ligt before he made his Ajax debut and former manager Jose Mourinho expressed an interest in signing him.

Ajax captain De Ligt is on international duty with the Netherlands ahead of their Nations League semi-final with England on June 6 but has spoken about his future at the Dutch camp.

"Where do I see myself? Well, obviously, the Premier League is a big competition, Spain also," De Ligt told ESPN. "But you have other competitions, it's not just about those two.

"I still don't know anything about where my future is, so I see how it goes. First we have to play two games and then after that I will see what happens next."

De Ligt is represented by Mino Raiola, who took clients Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba to United in 2016 and Romelu Lukaku the next year. Raiola is not Lukaku's agent anymore.

United are desperate to sign a centre-back having failed to buy one last year amid interest in Milan Skriniar, Kalidou Koulibaly, Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire, among others. United are still keen on Koulibaly but Skriniar signed a new Internazionale deal and Alderweireld is not regarded as a target despite having a £25million release clause this summer.
