Matthijs de Ligt breaks silence on Ajax future amid Manchester United and Man City transfer links

Manchester United and Man City have been given an apparent transfer boost as Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt broke his silence on his future.

Ajax look set to win a Dutch domestic double, despite their Champions League heartbreak after losing to Tottenham in the semi-finals and de Ligt spoke to the media after a 4-1 win against Utrecht on Sunday.

The 19-year-old centre-back has been touted to join teammate Frenkie de Jong in leaving the Amsterdam club, with United and City along with Barcelona all named as interested parties.

"I don't know yet. There have been conversations, but there is still no agreement," De Ligt told journalists at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

It raises the possibility that he may have played his final game at the stadium after Ajax general manager and United great Edwin van der Sar said: "I think these will be de Ligt's final games with Ajax, but I hope he goes out on a high."
