Matthijs de Ligt agrees £67m transfer to Juventus as Ajax skipper arrives in Turin

Matthijs de Ligt is set to finalise his switch to Juventus .

The Ajax captain arrived in Turin on Tuesday night ahead of his £67.5m move to the Italian champions.

De Ligt had emerged as the hottest property in world football this summer after leading Ajax to the semi-finals of the Champions League,

Manchester United, Liverpool and PSG were all tipped to be interested in the Dutch defender, but it was Barcelona in pole position.

The Spanish champions failed to agree a deal though and Juventus swooped with De Ligt arriving in Turin before sending a message to Juventus fans on social media.

He is expected to undergo a medical on Wednesday before completing his switch to the Italian champions.

Reports emerged earlier this week that Barcelona had attempted to hijack the deal at the 11th hour.

Mundo Deportivo claimed Barca made a late ploy to swoop for De Ligt, with president Josep Maria Bartomeu seeking face-to-face talks.

Bartomeu planned a trip to Amsterdam and despite agreeing terms with Juventus, De Ligt was open to meeting him.

But his agent Mino Raiola intervened and spoke with the Barca chief, advising him they would only hold discussions if the La Liga giants could match the terms on offer from Juve - around £9m per-season.

It is claimed Bartomeu decided to end their interest with De Ligt tipped to finalise his switch this week.

However, it has previously been reported that Raiola has advised De Ligt that he can afford to wait another couple of years before joining a European powerhouse.
