Matthias Ginter breaks silence on his future as he reacts to Chelsea transfer links

Matthias Ginter says he is definitely staying at Borussia Monchengladbach this summer.

Chelsea have been strongly linked to the 26-year-old following some excellent form in the Bundesliga.

The Blues are keen on strengthening their defence this summer and are said to have identified Ginter, although there has also been interest from elsewhere in Europe.

Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan have also been linked to Ginter, who made 36 appearances for his club this season.

Speaking to Kicker, the centre-back says he has been flattered by the attention in him but says he does not intend to leave Monchengladbach this summer.

"I’m definitely staying in Gladbach," he said.

"Of course I heard of the enquiries and was flattered by this attention.

"But I’ve said often enough how good things are for me in Gladbach. The current team has great potential and the coach has brought a huge added value for us.

"The club is in the process of building something with the great fans and the environment.

"I also have big goals with the club and of course I’m still tied into a contract."

Ginter has two years left on his contract, meaning Monchengladbach could be forced into selling him next summer if they do not agree a new deal.

The centre-back is relaxed over his contract situation, however, and says he expects a new deal to be offered at some point.

He said: "I can imagine that but there is no hurry.

"Discussions have yet taken place on this topic due to the coronavirus pandemic."
