Matthew Wolff has been a rising star on the PGA Tour ever since he turned professional back in 2019. He already has a win under his belt and his unique swing is something all golf fans know about by now.
But he showed us all on Thursday that golf is still a very hard game even if you are really good at golf, as he shot an 11-over 83 in the first round of the World Golf Championships-Workday Championship at The Concession.
A few hours after the first round ended it was announced that he withdrew from the event, which doesn’t have a cut like normal Tour events. That means Wolff will still make the $32K that goes to the last place finisher, which must be nice.
Before he withdrew, Wolff made this mistake while practicing his putting stroke on his 15th hole of the day:

Yikes.
I mean, that’s a mistake you’d see one of us weekend hackers make, not some pro who is currently ranked 19th in the world.
Wolff wasn’t penalized for that mistake because or a new rule that makes it OK if you strike your ball by accident while on the green.
