One of the marquee games on the Detroit Lions schedule comes in Week 7 with a trip to Los Angeles. It will mark the first time the Lions face longtime Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford, who will be under center for the host Rams.
Stafford joined the NFL Network during the schedule release gala on Wednesday night and talked about what it will be like to face the only team he’s played for since being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. The Lions and Rams swapped franchise QBs this winter in a blockbuster trade that sent Stafford to Los Angeles for Jared Goff and a slew of draft picks.
“It’ll be different. It’s something I’ve obviously never experienced,” Stafford said. “I played for the same franchise for 12 years so this will be a new one for me. Obviously, a bunch of great friends and on the other side of the ball, an organization I care a lot about. But that weekend I’ll be doing everything I can to make sure that we come out on top.”
Lions fans feel the same way, by and large. It’s been so long since No. 9 wasn’t the quarterback for Detroit that it’s going to be very strange seeing him facing the Lions in an opposing uniform.
