Matthew Stafford says ‘biggest challenge’ is learning new Detroit Lions offense

This offseason, the Detroit Lions made a change to the offense in hiring new coordinator Darrell Bevel, who most recently spent seven seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

For Stafford, who is entering his 11th season in the NFL (all with Detroit), the former No. 1 overall draft pick is tasked with learning a new offense.

“That’s my biggest challenge at the moment,” Stafford said. “Obviously I’m trying to lead this entire team, but at the same time I’ve got a lot of work on my plate to make sure we get everybody in the right spots and make sure we’re producing at a high level on offense.”

Stafford was selected with the first pick in the 2009 NFL Draft after three successful years at Georgia. For the past eight seasons, Stafford has consistently produced high numbers. His best season came in 2011, where he threw for 5,038 yards and 41 touchdowns.

The Lions offense will be totally loaded with weapons for Stafford this season, with Kenny Galloday, Marvin Jones, Danny Amendola, Jermaine Kearse and first round tight end draft pick TJ Hockenson out of Iowa.

Hopefully former Georgia tight end Isaac Nauta can find his way into the mix as well.
