Matthew Stafford: ‘Feel like I’m at where I need to be’ in adapting to new team

Matthew Stafford is ushering in a new era for both himself and the Los Angeles Rams this season, his first year with the team. He had a lot to learn about Sean McVay’s offense this summer after being traded by the Lions, admitting it was going to require a ton of work and studying on his part.

He’s done his part to feel comfortable in his new offense, which is a great sign as Week 1 approaches. During Saturday’s preseason game against the Chargers, Stafford did a sideline interview where he said he feels better now than he did before training camp.

“I’m feeling better,” he said. “Obviously every day is kind of a new challenge for me. Coming here and seeing this place loaded out and trying to figure out what we do pre-game and all those kinds of things are new challenges for me but I’m moving in the right direction. Feel like I’m at where I need to be, which is good.”

There was never really a concern about Stafford being ready for the regular season. Everyone knew he was going to be. But it’s good to hear him expressing more confidence now than he was in June.

And with all the high praise he’s gotten from McVay, Cooper Kupp, Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Donald – and everyone else who’s seen him throw a single pass this year – he seems to be doing just fine and is poised for a big year with his new team.
