Matthew Renshaw will fly to South Africa this evening after being added to Australia's Test squad in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal.
Renshaw, who hit the winning runs in an unbeaten 81 as he helped Queensland defeat Tasmania by nine wickets in the Sheffield Shield final in Brisbane this afternoon, will head to Johannesburg immediately and is expected to be available for selection for the fourth and final Test beginning at Wanderers on Friday.
While Renshaw's return to the team was coming in less than ideal circumstances, he said he would approach the situation by enjoying "the challenge of playing Test cricket".
Renshaw said he had been trying to keep the controversy in South Africa off his mind, and had been focusing on the Shield final.
"It's not everyday you get to play for your country. I'm really looking forward to getting back into the test arena and expressing myself," he said.
"I've just got to think about going out there and batting and just enjoying it."
Cricket Australia (CA) is expected to make an announcement about its investigation into the ball-tampering incident on Tuesday (South Africa time).
Steve Smith was stood down as Australia captain for the remainder of the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town, before being handed a one-match ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Vice-captain David Warner was also removed from his position on the fourth day in Cape Town.
The ICC did not ban Cameron Bancroft, instead punishing him over the ball-tampering charge with a hefty fine and three demerit points.
A decision on Darren Lehmann's future as Australia coach may also be announced by CA.
Bancroft had replaced Renshaw as Warner's opening partner ahead of the first Ashes Test in Brisbane last November.
Renshaw's form had been patchy at that stage but he had been expected to keep his place after appearing in Australia's previous 10 Tests.
Renshaw, who turns 22 on Wednesday, improved with the bat later in the Shield season, however, posting three centuries as the Bulls advanced to the final.
His Queensland teammate Joe Burns and Tasmania captain George Bailey have also been mentioned as potential additions to Australia's squad, but there has been no confirmation if they will be called up.
