Matthew McConaughey has clarified the suggestion that he could run for political office during an appearance on The Tonight Show.
Earlier this month, the Interstellar star told The Balanced Voice podcast that he was wanted to run for Governor of Texas, his home state.
Speaking to The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon on 19 March, McConaughey was asked about his gubernatorial intentions.
“Well, it’s come up a lot lately,” he replied. “And I’m gonna say to you now the same thing I’ve been saying, which is true. It’s not a dodge. And when I say it’s something I’m giving consideration, absolutely.
“What an honourable thing to even be able to consider. But that’s no further than that right now, sir.”
Last November, McConaughey also refused to rule out a run for office when he was interviewed on The Hugh Hewitt Show.

“That wouldn’t be up to me,” he told the host. “It would be up to the people more than it would me.”
“Look, politics seems to be a broken business to me right now. And when politics redefines its purpose, I could be a hell of a lot more interested.”
