Matthew James Williams: British ski coach admits raping woman and attacking her friend in Australia

A British ski instructor has pleaded guilty to carrying out a sex attack on a woman and beating up her friend in Australia.

Matthew James Williams, 29, attacked the man and woman as they left a pub in the resort town of Jindabyne near the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales last July.

CCTV footage showed Williams following the pair as they walked home from the Banjo Paterson Inn. He attacked the man until he fell unconscious before assaulting the women, according to local media reports.

Their injuries were so severe police originally believed several attackers had been involved, ABC News reported.

Williams, who worked at a nearby ski resort, was identified from the CCTV footage and arrested.

He had fled the scene after the male victim regained consciousness and flagged down a passing car.

Police also found a smart watch belonging to Williams at the scene, which he initially claimed had been stolen.

However, he appeared at Queanbeyan Local Court via video link on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault, inflicting actual bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse with another, and possession of a prohibited drug.

He will be sentenced at the New South Wales District Court in Goulburn in May.
