Matteo Guendouzi responds to Mesut Ozil claim as exiled Arsenal stars stick together

Matteo Guendouzi has responded to Mesut Ozil's praise on Twitter.

Ozil did a Q and A with supporters on Twitter on Wednesday night, and one fan asked the midfielder to select the most underrated player he has played with.

The German replied, selecting fellow Arsenal outcast Guendouzi, who is spending this season on loan with Hertha Berlin having fallen out with Mikel Arteta last season.

Ozil tweeted: "@MatteoGuendouzi - I'm sure he will be a big football player one day!" and the France under-21 international has responded, expressing his thanks.

Guendouzi tweeted: "Thank you my bro @MesutOzil1088. You know how much these words are important for me especially from you, one of the best player in the world and the best I played with."

Ozil hasn't played for Arsenal since March with Arteta leaving him out of his Premier League and Europa League squads, a decision he cannot alter until January when those squads are re-evaluated.

The German is out of contract in the summer and is expected to leave Arsenal but it's understood he does not want to depart before then, keen to see out his current deal.

Meanwhile, Guendouzi is playing in Ozil's homeland for Hertha, making eight Bundesliga appearances so far this season with his side currently in 14th.

Guendouzi fell out of favour with Arteta last season after he put in a poor challenge during the Gunners' defeat to Brighton.

The 21-year-old didn't play in a single game after that with Arteta understood to be unhappy with his attitude, something that has caused Guendouzi problems previously with reports of fallouts at previous club Lorient.

Nevertheless, he is still an Arsenal player and under contract until 2022, he may yet have a part to play in the Gunners' future.
