Matteo Guendouzi hints that his Arsenal career may be over after ‘intense’ two years

Matteo Guendouzi has hinted that his future may lie away from Arsenal, with the French midfielder now on loan at Hertha Berlin after being ostracised by Mikel Arteta.

Disciplinary issues saw Guendouzi temporarily separated from Arsenal's first-team squad last season, and although he has two years remaining on his contract, it appears as though his time in north London may be at an end.

The 21-year-old told Kicker: "I played over 80 games there and had a good, intense time there.

"I learned a lot there in terms of sport and grew up there. It was two good years for me.

"I also had a very good relationship with Mesut Ozil, and Bernd Leno, both of them told me a lot of good things about the Bundesliga."

Guendouzi is yet to make his debut for Hertha, having contracted coronavirus while on France U21 international duty shortly after completing his move to the German club.

He joined Arsenal from Lorient in 2018 for £8m, having previously been a member of PSG's academy, and arrived with somewhat of a reputation for indiscipline.

Those traits reared their head on a warm-weather training camp before Guendouzi reportedly mocked Brighton players about their wages last season.

From thereon, he was sidelined by Arteta, with the £45m deadline day arrival of Thomas Partey only reducing his chances of any return to Arsenal's immediate plans.
