Matteo Guendouzi could help Arsenal seal Thomas Partey transfer as Mesut Ozil absence explained

Here is your Arsenal morning digest for Monday, June 29.

Atletico Madrid to consider Partey swap deal

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are open to the idea of possibly doing a swap deal with Arsenal involving Thomas Partey and Matteo Guendouzi.

The Gunners, who knocked Sheffield United out of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon to set up a semi-final showdown with Manchester City at Wembley next month, are desperate to sign the Atletico midfielder in an attempt to beef up Mikel Arteta's midfield options.

It is understood that Partey is right at the very top of Arteta's wish list this summer, but the £45million fee that the Spanish giants are in search of for the midfielder could be a stumbling block, with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic likely to have had a massive impact on the Gunners' summer budget.

But according to a report in Spain, Atletico could be willing to let Partey go in a straight swap deal for Guendouzi, who has been a hot topic of conversation over the past week as far his Arsenal career is concerned.

Sheffield United vs Arsenal player ratings

After Nicolas Pepe fired the Gunners into a 25th-minute lead at Bramall Lane in Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final, it looked as though his second goal in three matches would be enough to secure Arsenal's passage to the last-four of the competition.

But with injury time looming, Sheffield United netted an equaliser, as striker David McGoldrick nodded home from close range.

However, with time running out, Arsenal found an extra gear and snatched a stoppage time winner through on-loan Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos, who fired home from inside the penalty area.

Why did Mesut Ozil miss the FA Cup quarter-final win?

After three league matches in succession, changes were always likely for the clash in South Yorkshire on Sunday.

Amongst those expected to come into the side was attacking-midfielder Mesut Ozil, after the German had played the role as an unused substitute in the clashes with Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton.

But the former Real Madrid man missed the clash with the Blades due to a back injury, Arsenal have confirmed.

Ozil suffered the problem at the back-end of last week and was forced to miss training on Saturday as a result.
