Matteo Guendouzi agrees with Samir Nasri on one major Arsenal problem

Matteo Guendouzi has agreed with former Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri on the lack of atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium.

The young Frenchman recently departed north London, having moved to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille on-loan. He joins Gunners teammate William Saliba in arriving at the Stade Velodrome this summer after the centre-back also made a loan switch to his homeland.

Both players have had an interesting start to life back in France, with Marseille having won and drawn each of their opening two matches of the campaign, while their clash with Nice was suspended following a brawl with supporters.

Guendouzi at this moment in time is not the most popular figure with Arsenal fans, having fallen out of favour under Mikel Arteta and appears to have soured his relationship with the club even more having chosen to criticise the atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium.

Talking in a press conference, the 22-year-old said: “The Marseille fans are incomparable. At Arsenal, there’s a big stadium, but it’s totally different. The best atmosphere is here [at Marseille]. It’s incredible to play in front of a crowd like this… it really lifts the players.”

Intriguingly, Guendouzi’s comments almost mirror those of Samir Nasri after he too exited the Emirates Stadium in 2011.

Then 24, the former Marseille playmaker completed a switch to Premier League rivals Manchester City for a reported fee of £24million.

He stayed as a permanent Manchester City player for the next seven seasons before a switch to Turkish outfit Antalyaspor.

Shortly after his switch to the Etihad Stadium, the midfielder was also critical of the atmosphere at the new Emirates Stadium in comparison to the Gunners’ former home Highbury and like Guendouzi, praised the Marseille fanbase.

He said: "The City supporters are really passionate and it reminds me of [playing for] Marseille.

"Arsenal have good fans but they are not that passionate since they moved from Highbury to the Emirates. The crowd at City are amazing and that's what you want as a player – a good atmosphere."
