Matteo Guendouzi admits advice from Mesut Ozil led to Arsenal transfer decision

Matteo Guendouzi admits a conversation with Mesut Ozil convinced him to leave Arsenal on loan in the summer transfer window.

Bernd Leno also chimed in with some advice, telling the Frenchman he'd enjoy plying his trade in the Bundesliga.

Guendouzi made more than 80 appearances for the Gunners in his two years at the club, but fell down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.

Both Arsenal stars Ozil and Leno have played in Germany, and encouraged Guendouzi to join Hertha Berlin for the campaign.

Guendouzi told Kicker: "I had a very good relationship with Mesut Ozil and Bernd Leno. Both of them told me a lot of good things about the Bundesliga."

"I played over 80 games there [at Arsenal] and had a good, intense time there. I learned a lot there in terms of sport and grew up there. It was two good years for me."

Guendouzi's comment suggests he is unlikely to return to Arsenal at the end of the season, and will instead look for a new club.

Ozil will also be looking for a new club come the end of the season.

The World Cup winner is in the final year of his £350,000-a-week contract in north London, but already appears to have played his last game for Arsenal.

Arteta left the German out of both his Europa League and Premier League squads this season, meaning Ozil cannot represent Arsenal until February at the earliest.
