Matt Wills says he turned down Strictly because he couldn't cope with pressure

Busted's Matt Willis has told how he turned down the chance of appearing on Strictly Come Dancing several times because he's terrified of the idea of featuring on the show.

The Pop star, 38, told in a candid interview how he reckons he couldn't 'cope with the pressure of being on the show'.

He told OK! magazine: The idea of Strictly terrifies me. I've been asked a few times and always said no. Can you imagine standing there and suddenly you hear "Tonight, dancing the cha-cha-cha, it's Matt Willis!"

"You know something like £12 million people are watching - no thanks. There's not a chance that I'd be able to cope with that kind of pressure."

Matt appears to have changed his mind about appearing on the show as last year he told how he plans to defy his wife, The Voice host Emma Willis, and 'one day take part in Strictly'.

Dad-of-three Matt, declared he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his McFly pal Harry Judd, who won the Glitterball trophy in 2011.

He said: "They’ll be some sort of dancing show in my future, I am sure. Not this year, but it’s a given isn’t it? At some point.”

His decision comes after Emma said in 2016 that she'd never let him do it.

“I’m a jealous person. If my husband is around a younger, good-looking woman, I’m like, ‘Stop looking at them', she admitted.

“Matt could do Strictly, because he’s an amazing dancer. Every now and then he will bust out a pirouette in the middle of the living room and our daughter will be like, ‘Wow, Daddy!’

“But I don’t want him grinding against hot women.”

Dancing in front of the nation might not be Matt's idea of fun, but it was alleged last month that he and his wife Emma planned to form a presenting duo and he has signed up to her management company.

The singer star is said to be desperate to not only follow in her footsteps, but stand alongside her.

Matt has already turned his hand to acting, landing a rule in Waitress at the New Wimbledon Theatre later this year.

He will also appear in World War Two movie Wolves Of War after parts in Birds of a Feather and EastEnders.

Now he wants to make the move into presenting and working alongside his wife in the future is reportedly a big aim.

A source told The Sun: “After over two decades in Busted, Matt is preparing to make the move into TV presenting - he is totally overhauling his image and sees his future on the box."
