Matt Tootle quietly confident Notts County will avoid relegation

Notts County defender Matt Tootle remains quietly confident his side will avoid the drop this season.

The 28-year-old, speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to face Crewe, said that as long as Neal Ardley's stars do their jobs then Magpies fans have no need to fear the spectre of National League football.

The Magpies and Macclesfield had spent 174 days keeping each other company in the relegation places at the bottom of League Two before Yeovil Town joined the party.

Proposed Notts County takeover enters 'latter stages of due diligence'

It was a victory at home to play-offs hopefuls Exeter City that lifted Sol Campbell's side out of danger for the first time since August, but, despite the Silkmen seemingly hitting form, Tootle remains adamant Notts' approach will stay the same.

"Nothing changes from my point of view," said Tootle.

"The players were speaking about Macclesfield's win, and nothing changes for us.

"We have to get two more or thee more points than Macclesfield between now and the end of the season and that's that.

"If we do our jobs then I think that we will be good.

Notts County ready to get physical, says boss Neal Ardley

"I saw somebody say on Twitter that on the form table we are sixth and Macclesfield are seventh, but Crawley and Yeovil are the bottom two, and that says a lot.

"For a team in this position at the end of the season, we are in good form. Normally teams like us would struggle to get wins or even points so I feel like we are on a really good run and it is just a matter of getting a little bit of luck.

"If the performances keep coming then results will come."
