Matt Smith is Charles Manson in creepy new clip from movie Charlie Says

Be prepared to see Matt Smith in a whole new light.

Focusing on the three women who killed for infamous cult leader Charles Manson —Leslie Van Houten (Hannah Murray, Game of Thrones), Patricia Krenwinkel (Sosie Bacon), and Susan Atkins (Marianne Rendón) — these women remain under the spell of the infamous cult leader ( Doctor Who star Matt Smith ).

Confined to an isolated cellblock in a California prison, the trio seem destined to live out the rest of their lives under the delusion that their crimes were part of a cosmic plan — until graduate student Karlene Faith (Merritt Wever) is tasked with rehabilitating them.

Convinced the prisoners are not the inhuman monsters they are perceived as, Karlene begins the difficult process of breaking down the psychological barriers erected by Manson.

But are the women ready to confront the horror of what they did, including the murder of actress and model Sharon Tate (Grace Van Dien)?

In an exclusive clip for Mirror Online, we see the ladies under the control of Manson's power whilst at the "family" ranch.

"It is comforting to see the Manson girls as monsters, as ‘other’, as outliers to normal human experience, says director Mary Hannon to Signature Enterinament.

"In fact, the most disturbing thing about them is their ordinariness. How did these perfectly sane and likable young women come to commit such hideous crimes? ‘Kill your ego’, Charlie says.

"The film takes us with Leslie Van Houten through the cult experience step by step. First she is lured into what seems an ecstatic community, then subject to brainwashing that gradually erodes her individual will and conscience.

"The violence, when it happens, is abrupt and horrifying, almost like a dream, followed by a slow and terrible awakening years later in prison."
