Matt Slauson says he declined coaching offer from Colts

Former Indianapolis Colts guard Matt Slauson announced his retirement on Wednesday after 10 seasons in the NFL, and there was some speculation the team might offer him a coaching gig.

Given his success working on the coaching staff following his season-ending injury, Slauson told Sirius XM NFL radio’s Alex Marvez that the team did offer him a spot on the coaching staff, but the veteran declined it.

Slauson was the starter at right guard for the Colts before suffering a back injury against the New England Patriots in Week 5 that ended the veteran’s season. The Colts eventually replaced Slauson with Mark Glowinski, who earned a three-year extension.

The Colts raved about Slauson’s ability to work with the offensive line following his injury, and there was an expectation the team would at least approach him with an opportunity.

Slauson, however, will be looking forward to spending some time with his family in retirement.
