Matt Schnell vs. Tyson Nam rebooked for UFC Fight Night on Jan. 20

The flyweight matchup between Matt Schnell and Tyson Nam has been postponed once again.

Originally rebooked for UFC Fight Night 183 on Dec. 19, the pair are now expected to square off at UFC Fight Night on Wednesday, Jan. 20, which is being targeted for “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi.

Two people with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie of the rebooking Friday, but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

The matchup was initially scheduled for UFC on ESPN+ 35 in September, but just a day before the fight, Schnell collapsed during his weight cut and the fight was scrapped.

After notching four straight wins, including first-round submissions of Louis Smolka and Jordan Espinosa, Schnell (14-5 MMA, 4-3 UFC) saw his winning streak snapped at the hands of Alexandre Pantoja in December 2019.

Nam (20-11-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC), who dropped his first two UFC bouts, has rebounded with back-to-back stoppage wins over Zarrukh Adashev, and most recently Jerome Rivera in September.

With the addition, the Jan. 20 lineup includes:

  • Douglas Silva de Andrade vs. Lerone Murphy
  • Francisco Figueiredo vs. Jerome Rivera
  • Viviane Araujo vs. Roxanne Modafferi
  • Tyson Nam vs. Matt Schnell
