Matt Ryan deserves more credit for consistency despite coordinator changes

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is going through an offensive coordinator change this year for the fourth time in his career. If continuity is crucial for sustained success in the NFL, then Ryan doesn’t get nearly enough credit for his consistency despite all the turnover. On the bright side, Ryan has previously worked with Dirk Koetter before from 2012-2014.

While he peaked under Kyle Shanahan’s direction from 2015-2016 and won an MVP, Ryan’s level of play has been remarkably consistent throughout the years. Here’s a look at what he has averaged per season under each different coordinator since he came into the league.

If you need more evidence of his steady hand, consider this: Ryan has never thrown more than 17 interceptions in a single year and he’s never had a passer rating below 80.9.

Ryan has also been a model of availability. He has only missed two games since he was drafted back in 2008.
