Matt Ryan confident in Jamon Brown subbing in for Chris Lindstrom

After Falcons first-round pick Chris Lindstrom was put on the injured reserve list with a broken foot, backup Jamon Brown will get the start at right guard against the Eagles.

Quarterback Matt Ryan talked about a number of topics after practice on Wednesday, including his expectations for Brown in his team’s Week 2 home opener against a tough Philadelphia defense.

“I think JB will be good. He’s a guy with a lot of experience in this league and has done a nice job for us all throughout the off season. During training camp, he played a lot for us. He’ll be ready to go, I’m sure of that. I know Chris Morgan will do a nice job of getting all of our guys up front prepared and ready for Sunday.”

It’s not an ideal situation for Atlanta, but Brown isn’t just a normal backup. The Falcons gave him a three-year, $18.75 million contract in the offseason before drafting Lindstrom and Kaleb McGary.

The team certainly considered it a possibility that Brown would be the starting at some point this season, otherwise they wouldn’t have given him that kind of money.

The Falcons desperately need a victory against Philly to avoid an 0-2 hole.
