Matt Ritchie's set piece statistic that will give Eddie Howe selection headache vs Leicester City

Newcastle United will be looking to record back-to-back victories for the first time this season when they travel to Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

The Magpies recorded a much-needed win as they beat Burnley 1-0 last weekend courtesy of Callum Wilson's first-half effort and they will be keen to build on that heading into the game at the King Power Stadium.

However, someone who didn't feature in that game was Matt Ritchie as Eddie Howe opted to keep Jamal Lewis in the starting XI, following Ritchie's suspension for picking up five bookings.

Howe's decision proved to be the right one as the ex-Norwich City man put in another impressive performance and kept Dwight McNeil relatively quiet on the Clarets' right side.

Ritchie may have felt unfortunate not to win his place back and he will be pushing for a recall as his side make the 350-mile round trip to the East Midlands.

When he's played, the 30-year-old has arguably been one of the Magpies' brightest players and showed glimpses of getting back to the level he was at under Howe at Bournemouth.

This season, no one among the 'Other14' clubs have created more opportunities from set pieces than Ritchie (16), having conjured-up 13 from corners and three from free-kicks.

Leeds United winger Raphinha sits second on the list with 13, while Pascal Groß (12), Conor Gallagher (11) and James Ward-Prowse (11) are also in the top-five.

The list includes every team apart from the traditional top-six in Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

But Ritchie's quality from dead ball situations will give Howe a selection headache ahead of this weekend's game, espeically considering Leicester's vulnerability from crosses.

Brendan Rodgers' men have conceded 10 Premier League goals from set pieces (excluding penalties) this season, the joint-most of any side - level with Crystal Palace.

It's an alarming statistic but one that Newcastle should exploit after Aston Villa scored their winner against the Foxes from a corner as Ezri Konsa headed home at the back post.

Ritchie has proven that he is one of the best from set pieces in the country and his class could give the Magpies the edge against a leaky Foxes team.

Leicester tend to use a zonal approach from corners and it hasn't been the most effective approach, with some supporters frustrated about how easy opponents have been able to score from set plays.

Jamaal Lascelles could benefit from this considering his height and threat in the air and Ritchie has the ability to deliver into the danger area.

Although his defensive capabilities have been questioned this season, Ritchie's attacking threat will be something that Howe has thought about when selecting his side to face the Foxes.

He has already grabbed two assists from 13 appearances this term, setting up Jacob Murphy in the 4-2 defeat against West Ham United, before creating Lascelles' opener in Howe's first game in charge.
