Matt Rife is now doing a “crowd work” special since his jokes didn’t work

Matt Rife is a “comedian” who, often, uses his crowd work to make people think he’s good at stand-up. So when his stand-up specials inevitably failed, people realized quickly that he isn’t as funny as his TikTok page let people believe.

Now, the “comedian” is releasing a special, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that is built entirely around crowd work. Why is that? Oh because that was what Rife was “good” at. Look, I don’t like Rife’s style of comedy. It’s not really stand-up, he just basically has a conversation with people and says things that people might deem funny but he’s not going into comedy shows with jokes prepared.

When he did prepare his “jokes” for his previous stand-up specials, they were sexist and not at all funny. So what does that say about him as a comedian? He can talk to people but ask him to write something and it is going to be offensive and rude?

Rife’s special is going to be called Matt Rife: Unwrapped — A Christmas Crowd Work Special and marks the third time he’s worked with Netflix on a special. This is also the second “crowd work” special he’s done after his first special did not do well. The previous two specials were titled Matt Rife: Natural Selection and Matt Rife: Lucid — A Crowd Work Special.

Now look, to be “fair” to him, not everyone is meant to be a stand-up comedian and he made a name for himself through his crowd work. So it isn’t surprising it didn’t necessarily translate to his brand of stand-up. I just simply don’t think Rife is a comedian who should have a huge platform because he’s not funny but hey, to each their own.

So if you want to spend your holidays with Matt Rife, I guess your Christmas wish came true.
