Matt Patricia confident Damon Harrison will be ready despite not practicing yet

Damon Harrison is not holding out from Detroit Lions training camp. Even though the defensive tackle wants a new contract, he reported for duty in Allen Park and has been at every practice.

However, Harrison has yet to take the field in any session. He remains on the NFI list with an undisclosed injury.

Coach Matt Patricia doesn’t seem concerned about Harrison’s availability, at least not yet. He trusts the veteran to get himself prepared for when the games start counting.

“With him, we’re trying to do the best we can for him to get ready to go,” Patricia said before Sunday’s practice. “For a guy that has played a lot of football for a number of years and has handle these situations in training camp the same for a while and just working with him to make sure he is ready to go when we get to that point.”

The coach referenced Harrison and other players who aren’t active in every practice session,

“Those guys are doing stuff. They’re out there, they’re working, it’s just who they are working with at that point. And I would say our training staff does a great job of being very proactive in some of that stuff out on the field to get those guys ready to go.”

This is Harrison’s first offseason as a Detroit Lion after being acquired in a midseason trade with the New York Giants last fall.
