Matt O'Riley seals Celtic transfer as midfielder signs four-and-a-half year contract

Celtic have officially confirmed the signing of midfielder Matt O'Riley as their fifth capture of the January window.

Manager Ange Postecoglou is continuing his Parkhead rebuild and moved quickly to get deals tied up in the winter window.

Japanese trio Yosuke Ideguchi, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda were snapped up right away, with Johnny Kenny joining from Sligo Rovers.

Postecoglou was also looking for an attacking midfielder with David Turnbull's injury putting extra burden on Tom Rogic.

A move for compatriot Riley McGree fell through at the last minute when Middlesbrough offered more money, and Celtic turned to O'Riley.

A fee believed to be around £1.5million was agreed with MK Dons and the Englishman took his medical on Wednesday.

A last-gasp offer from West Brom was rebuffed by the player and O'Riley is now officially a Celtic player, signing a four and a half year deal.

O'Riley came through the Fulham youth system but managed just one league appearance for the first team before moving to MK Dons last January.

Manager Postecoglou said: “We’re delighted to get Matt into the club. He’s someone who should fit in well with the group we have here, both from on the field and also the kind of person he is.

“We’re looking forward to having him as part of the group. He’s a talented young player and I’m sure he’ll enjoy his time here, and I’m sure he’ll add to what we’ve already started.”
