Matt Nagy was a big reason Ha Ha Clinton-Dix chose Bears

The Chicago Bears secondary was one of the defense’s strengths in 2018, and despite losing Adrian Amos to the Green Bay Packers in free agency, the unit should still be among the league’s best in 2019.

One reason why is the addition of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who will join Eddie Jackson to form an athletic and playmaking duo at safety.

Clinton-Dix, despite his regression in play in 2018, had plenty of suitors on the open market but ultimately chose the Bears because of the culture that’s been created by coach Matt Nagy.

Jackson told reporters in attendance at the team’s organized team activities Wednesday that he and Mitchell Trubisky used Nagy as part of their recruiting pitch to Clinton-Dix.

The Bears signed Clinton-Dix on the cheap. His one-year, $3 million contract is a bargain considering his career resume, which includes a Pro Bowl bid in 2016. He isn’t the kind of thumper Amos is in run support, but he’s proven capable of being a playmaker in the secondary with 14 interceptions over his first five seasons.

The Nagy-effect is not only winning games on the field, but it’s winning recruiting efforts off of it. And that’s how a championship culture is ultimately built.
