Matt Nagy talks Bears injuries: Concerns for Long and Hicks, hope for Trubisky

Now that the Chicago Bears’ bye week is officially in the books, we should get more information on the many storylines that have surrounded the team since its Week 5 loss to the Oakland Raiders.

Injuries are among those storylines, which include the statuses of quarterback Mitch Trubisky, defensive tackle Akiem Hicks and right guard Kyle Long.

Prior to his Monday afternoon press conference, Nagy spoke with Josh Liss of WBBM Newsradio Chicago, where he provided some updates of reports and statuses.

On Sunday, Ian Rapoport reported that the Bears would likely place Long on injured reserve, which Nagy confirmed to WBBM.

“That’s where it’s at,” he said. “We want to credit him for battling through an injury. It is a tough loss but it’s a part of the game.”

Long, who has dealt with a hip injury, has struggled immensely this season. This is the fourth straight season that Long is headed to injured reserve, and his future in Chicago looks cloudy.

Then there’s Hicks, who returned from a knee injury only to hurt his elbow against the Raiders in Week 5. Nagy said that they continue to evaluate Hicks’ injury, but it sounds like he’ll be out for some time.

“We’re hoping he’s definitely able to return by season’s end,” Nagy said.

As far as Trubisky, Nagy wouldn’t say too much other than Trubisky was at Halas Hall every day rehabbing that left shoulder. While Nagy remained noncommittal if Trubisky will play Sunday, he sounded hopeful.

“We’ll see how it goes here this whole week,” Nagy said. “But we’re excited for him. Every day helps us out to get him back. So we’ll see where it ends up going.”
