Matt Nagy’s seen enough of David Montgomery in preseason

Just how valuable is Bears rookie running back David Montgomery? Look no further than Friday’s preseason game against the Giants.

Following an impressive performance last week against the Panthers, where Montgomery flashed his potential in this Bears offense, Matt Nagy couldn’t stop gushing about Montgomery. In fact, he had to stop himself from going overboard.

Clearly, Nagy was as smitten with Montgomery as Bears fans were.

So it wasn’t a surprise when Nagy chose not to play Montgomery in the Bears’ second preseason game against the Giants, a clear indication that he’s seen enough of his prized rookie running back in meaningless preseason action.

Montgomery has impressed throughout training camp and his lone preseason game, and Nagy knows what he has in this young star-in-the-making.

Given that Nagy rested all of his starters — players that are crucial to the success of this football team in 2019 — it’s not a surprise that Montgomery fell into that category.

The next time you’ll see Montgomery will be Sept. 5. And Nagy isn’t messing around.
