Matt Nagy recalls the time Aaron Rodgers tripped him

The Bears-Packers rivalry runs deep. Whether it’s between fans or the teams themselves, it spans decades, and it stretches well beyond the football field, even to the golf course.

With just two weeks until the Bears open their centennial season against the Packers, there’s plenty of motivation for Chicago to upend their oldest rivals.

Last year’s season-opening loss. Years of Aaron Rodgers delivering heartbreak. And Brett Favre before him. Oh, and most recently, Rodgers tripping Bears coach Matt Nagy.

Nagy and Rodgers played in the American Century Championship, a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, California, in July. It was there that Rodgers decided to start some trouble with Nagy.

“I’m scrambling in the back (of the room) to stand up and there’s about a hundred guys sitting in the back row, and as I’m walking, all of the sudden I trip,” Nagy said, via the Sun-Times. “I look back, and someone stuck their knee out to trip me.

“I look back and he’s just sitting there and he’s staring at me, laughing, with this grin. I just looked at him and all I thought about was, ‘This is gonna be fun.’ That was the interaction we had, and I think it was a mutual respect.”

The Bears will get their chance for revenge — both for Nagy and years past — on Sept. 5 in the season opener.
