Matt Nagy promises Bears offense will figure things out…eventually

For one play last Sunday against the Broncos, the Bears offense came up big when Mitch Trubisky found Allen Robinson for a 25-yard completion on fourth-and-15 to set up Eddy Pineiro’s 53-yard game-winning field goal.

But aside from that, it’s been a wave of inconsistency from a unit that’s in its second season of Matt Nagy’s scheme. There was a promise of continuity, a promise of consistency and a promise of development.

After two regular season games, the Bears offense feels no closer to finding consistency as a unit. But that’s exactly what Nagy promises will happen…eventually.

“We want to figure this thing out,” he said Monday. “We have time to do that. And we feel like we will. … Eventually, it’ll crack. And when it does, I think it’s going to be pretty good.”

Pretty good is what Bears fans were expecting when the offense debuted in its sophomore season against the Packers. But their two performances have been marred by inconsistency and a lack of production.

The Bears are in the bottom three in terms of points, yardage and passer rating after two weeks, and that’s not where many expected this offense to be after all the hype and talk of football 202.

But Chicago’s offense has an opportunity to get on track against a Redskins defense that is 30th in the league, having given up 910 yards and 63 points in its two losses to the Eagles and Cowboys.

If there’s ever a time for the Bears offense to right the ship, it’s Monday night in Washington.
