Matt Nagy on 2019 season: ‘Let’s go get this thing’

For the first time in many, many years, Chicago Bears fans will begin a football season with more than just hope and wishful thinking. They’ll have legitimate expectations.

And why shouldn’t they? After 2018’s NFC North championship and near-win in the wild-card game, the Bears are positioned to be one of the top contenders to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. The defense, led by Khalil Mack, should be as ferocious as it was last season and the offense, led by Mitchell Trubisky, will be even more polished and explosive in its second year under coach Matt Nagy.

With expectations comes pressure, however. But don’t worry about that pressure impacting Nagy or the rest of this roster, many of whom were at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center for the team’s 100th-anniversary celebration Friday.

“You know what they want,” Nagy said of fan expectations, via the Chicago Tribune. “You think there’s pressure? Of course there is. But we like pressure. Let’s go get this thing.”

By thing, Nagy means the Lombardi Trophy. You know, the hardware that comes along with winning the Super Bowl, something Bears fans haven’t experienced since 1985.

But 2019 feels different. It feels special. What better franchise to represent the NFL as its champion in its 100th season than the Bears?

Yeah, let’s go get this thing.
