Matt Nagy is the offensive engine that makes the Bears go

The Chicago Bears offense has undergone a drastic transformation over the past year. Once a mediocre unit, the Bears have become one of the more innovative offenses in the league.

But who is the offensive engine that makes the Bears offense go?

NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks examined exactly who that person is for each NFL team. And for the Bears, it should come as no surprise that it’s head coach Matt Nagy.

Chicago Bears: Head coach Matt Nagy

For all of the love thrown in Mitchell Trubisky’s direction for his growth as a second-year starter in 2018, the verbal bouquets should really land on Matt Nagy’s lap for crafting a scheme that sets up the QB1 for success with a variety of layups (screens, quicks and isolation routes) embedded in each game plan. Sure, Trubisky deserves credit for converting the layups, but Nagy’s creativity and offensive brilliance elevate the young signal-caller beyond his talent level.

Nagy’s arrival in Chicago signaled a cultural shift for the Bears, particularly on offense. Nagy’s innovation has opened up this offense in a way that Bears fans haven’t seen before.

With a franchise quarterback on a rookie deal, as well as a plethora of weapons, Nagy has the pieces in place to perfectly execute his offensive vision.
