Chicago Bears defensive lineman Akiem Hicks returned for Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders after battling a knee injury only to leave the game with a separate injury.
Hicks sustained a left elbow injury on the first drive of the game. It happened when Hicks’ elbow got caught between Khalil Mack’s helmet and Josh Jacobs’ pads.
Hicks was taken to the team’s blue injury tent, where he was examined by trainers. Hicks was then escorted to the locker room and did not return to the game.
When Bears coach Matt Nagy met with the media after Chicago’s 24-21 loss, he wasn’t sure about the severity of Hicks’ injury. But he doesn’t believe it’s season-ending.
The Bears’ defense really missed Hicks’ presence on the interior of the defensive line, where they allowed 169 rushing yards to the Raiders, including 123 yards to rookie running back Josh Jacobs.
Chicago heads into the bye week sitting at 3-2, which feels like the perfect time for an off week. The Bears have several players dealing with injuries, including Hicks, starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky, receiver Taylor Gabriel and kicker Eddy Pineiro.
