Matt Nagy confirms Bears QB Andy Dalton will start vs. Lions

There’s been a lot of unknowns within Halas Hall these last few days, but one was made certain on Tuesday’s media session.

Head coach Matt Nagy, who is currently on the hottest of hot seats amidst rumors and reports surrounding his job security, confirmed quarterback Andy Dalton will be the starter for Thursday’s Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions.

Dalton is making his first start since Week 2 when he faced his former team, the Cincinnati Bengals. He is taking the place of rookie Justin Fields, who suffered bruised ribs last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens and had to exit the game.

Nagy is hopeful Fields will be back in time to face the Arizona Cardinals on Dec. 6. And Nagy made it clear, when Fields is healthy, he’ll remain the starter.

Appearing in four games this season, Dalton has completed 48 passes for 471 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He was 11-for-23 for 201 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday. He’ll likely be facing Lions backup quarterback Tim Boyle, making his second career start in place of Jared Goff, who is dealing with an injury himself.

The Bears and Lions kickoff the first of three games on Thanksgiving, beginning at 11:30 a.m. CT.
