Matt Nagy: Bears open to Cody Whitehair and James Daniels switching positions

All five of the Chicago Bears’ starting offensive linemen are back for 2019, but the team could still make some changes up front.

Matt Nagy spoke with reporters at the NFL owners meetings in Arizona Tuesday, and he said the team is open to the idea of moving Cody Whitehair back to left guard and starting James Daniels at center.

Whitehair played left tackle in college at Kansas State before moving to center for his rookie season. In 2017, he filled in at both left and right guard because of injuries on the offensive line.

Daniels was a center at Iowa before the Bears moved him to left guard for his rookie season, so they could see him as a more natural fit in the middle of the offensive line.

The decision will likely fall on offensive line coach Harry Hiestand, who has to determine if the Bears are better off moving Whitehair from a position where he’s played well, in order to put Daniels what may or may not be a better spot.
