Matt Nagy appreciates how Bears ‘motivate themselves’

When you find success, it’s easy to get complacent; to believe that because you attained success before means it should come easy.

But that’s not these Chicago Bears.

The Bears found success last season when most believed they wouldn’t — going from worst to first with a 12-4 record, an NFC North title and a playoff appearance.

Given that the Bears return all but two starters on offense and defense, the core is in place for this team moving forward into 2019. Understanding the potential of this team, it’s not something these players take lightly. Even in the warm summer of Bourbonnais.

“Not one time, literally not one time this whole camp, not one time in the periods, have I had to say to pick it up,” Nagy said following Tuesday’s practice. “Not one time.

“It’s real. These guys, they lead themselves. They motivate themselves.”

Even when they have a sluggish practice on a Monday, which Nagy noted there is always one.

“Our guys got to stay strong — they got to fight through this,” Nagy said Monday. “Losing teams don’t fight through it. We fought through it.”

The Bears’ theme for the 2019 season is “Chasing Great.” It’s displayed on the t-shirts they wear and in their demeanor as they take the practice field at Olivet Nazaerene University.

This isn’t a team that’s settling for the success they had last season. They believe that they can achieve so much more — that greatness that they’re chasing.
