The Miami Dolphins will start Matt Moore in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.
Jay Cutler, who has started nine games this season, practiced on Friday, but wasn't cleared from the NFL's concussion protocol, so head coach Adam Gase named Moore as his starter.
Moore has replaced Cutler in the second half of games against the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and started Miami's 40-0 loss to the Baltimore Ravens because Cutler was sidelined with broken ribs.
"(Matt) plays fast," offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said. "He plays extremely fast, sometimes too fast. (Last) week there were a couple in the red zone that maybe he was too fast.
"But the ball is going to come out of there. His mind works fast, everything's moving fast, so I think that's probably a little bit different as far as the tempo of that goes, which is sometimes an advantage, sometimes a disadvantage."
Moore has served as Miami's backup quarterback since the 2011 season, and led the Dolphins to the playoffs last season by winning three of the four games he played in as Ryan Tannehill's replacement.
"My role is what it is," said Moore, who has completed 59 percent of his passes for 646 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. "When Ryan was here, I was the backup. When they signed Jay, who knows what's going to happen, I became the backup again and it was defined.
"My role is what it is and I do my best to execute it, whatever it is. That's the way I roll with this thing."
