Matt McQuaid working out with Detroit Pistons pre-NBA Draft

Today in “Please, oh please let this happen” news: Matt McQuaid is working out with the Detroit Pistons.

Now, this isn’t that extraordinary of a piece of news. NBA teams host prospects varying in draft stock all throughout the pre-draft process. The Pistons have been and will continue to host dozens of prospects until the draft. McQauid himself has also worked out with the Memphis Grizzlies.

But still, I would LOVE to see Quaido get his first NBA shot with the Pistons. And it’s nice to see there is some interest there. He’s still a very, very long shot to get drafted and that’s just fine. Given his skillset and pre-draft process, I think it’s a safe bet to say McQuaid will get a shot in the NBA Summer League and have a chance to play in the NBA’s developmental G-League next season.

Right now there is some uncertainty with the Pistons and their current G-League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Drive. There are plans for Detroit to bring a G-League affiliate to play at a new facility at Wayne State University, but the Drive say they aren’t moving out of Grand Rapids. However things shake out there, it’d be great to see McQuaid in the Pistons red, white and blue. And  at the very least if McQuaid ends up on the Pistons’ G-League team, he’ll either be playing in Grand Rapids or at the new Wayne State facility and that’d be a win for Spartans fans in Michigan.

The NBA draft will be June 20th.
