Matt McQuaid to participate in Professional Basketball Combine

QUAIDOOOOOO!!!!!

Amber Searls-USA TODAY Sports

It’s the oft-yelled nickname of the lock-down-defending, sharp-shooting-Spartan Matt McQuaid and it looks like it will continue to be yelled at basketball courts in the future.

McQuaid will be attending the Professional Basketball Combine according to the scouting event’s Twitter. The PBC is a secondary combine (behind the NBA’s traditional scouting combine) that gives more college players the chance to show their skills in front of professional scouts. The PBC attracts coaches and scouts from the NBA and its G-League as well as professional overseas teams.

The PBC is in its third year and 100% of its attendees have gone on to sign professional contracts at some level. The PBC also boasts nine two-way contracts, which are deals in which the player moves between an NBA team and its G-League affiliate at varying salary levels. In addition, 23 of its alumnus have been invited to participate in the NBA Summer League including 2017 G-League Rookie of the Year Antonio Blakely, who is now a member of the Chicago Bulls.

It may not be as prestigious as the NBA combine, but the PBC has a proven track record of getting players in front of professional evaluators and getting its participants deals.

Here’s to hoping Quaido shows out during the two-day event and earns himself a solid living playing professionally. He grew into a model Spartan at his time at MSU and should be able to play professional basketball until he’s ready to hang up the sneakers.
