Matt McQuaid signs with German basketball team

Former Michigan State basketball player Matt McQuaid said last week he probably would be spending his first professional year overseas, and now that news is official.

McQuaid has signed with Fraport Skyliners out of Frankfurt, Germany. The Skyliners play in the Basketball Bundesliga, the top basketball league in Germany.

Skyliners won the German Cup in 2000 and were runners-up at the 2016 FIBA World Cup.

McQuaid joins Kenny Goins as members of the 2018-19 basketball team to head overseas. Goins has singed with Pallencestro Trapani, out of Sicily.

The third newly departed Spartan, Nick Ward, is still sorting out where he will play professionally, although it looks like the G-League will be the spot for him. Ward is one of 50 players participating in the G-League invitational, a scouting showcase for G-League teams.

McQuaid had a standout senior season at Michigan State, averaging a shade under 10 points per game on 42% shooting from three, while being named first team all-defense in the Big Ten.
